Since the dawn of time, the Feminine has been oppressed. Her beauty, wisdom, elegance, grace, nurturance, truth, and elusive power have all been eroded and manipulated in favor of the distorted masculine ideals of control, ownership, and self-service. The Feminine has consequently been persecuted into a position of subservience, leaving her vulnerable to intrusion and manipulation.
The irony is that the Divine Feminine was well-known and revered in ancient African and Eastern traditions. She was upheld as the Goddess and life-giver. Her intuition and wisdom were respected and happily obeyed. She was seen as the Mother to all, the nurturer, the Empress.
Her ways were not those of oppression, control, or manipulation. Her ways were wise, gentle, communal, loving, and guided by intuition.
Yet we see that over the centuries, in a ruthless attempt to destroy all remnants of the highly advanced principles guiding Divine Feminine societies, she has been brought down from her altar – mocked, shamed, disrespected, and violently oppressed.
Her beauty, and mysterious yet powerful sensuality, have been highly distorted into over-sexualization and disempowerment through the homogenous, unrealistic beauty and body ideals promoted by society throughout the eons.
The woman who once used to stand strong in her power and self-knowing is now questioning herself on the daily, wondering if she is ‘enough’ for the toxic society set up by demented masculine powers.
Objectification of the Feminine
Think about it. Women all over the world are continually fed messaging about how they ought to dress a certain way, do this to their eyelashes, and that to their buttocks – it is an onslaught of manipulation to exorcize the divinity and sovereignty of women and force them into a state of disempowerment and disconnection from their natural beingness.
A beingness that is highly evolved, highly in-tune with the cycles of nature, inwardly reflective, divinely guided, self-assured, accepting, and powerful beyond measure.
This subtle erosion has been happening for centuries, all at the hands of twisted, toxic masculine powers.
It really all kicked into full gear with the worldwide conquest of the Roman Empire, which strived to wipe out all remnants of ancient traditions, and with it, the worship of the Divine Feminine.

The influence of this domination has been evident in the lack of women’s rights witnessed throughout time, yet more intriguingly, this domination subtly continues modern-day through messaging designed to keep the Feminine in a state of oppression.
Let’s take the iconic Marilyn Monroe for example. She was caricatured as a sexual icon who lacked brains and was purely there to please male fantasies. Hollywood, having the power to influence millions of people across the world, deliberately created that character to portray a certain message about women lacking intelligence in comparison to men and being more suitable for roles that highlight their physicality – indirectly, placing women in a subservient role to men.

Media messaging such as this, which appeals to the masses, is used all the time to convey subtle messages which take root within human minds and begin shaping the way that the collective thinks about things, in this case, feminine energy.
It is very clear in this example how the age-old qualities of intellectual prowess, intuitive power, masterful sensuality, as well as gentle grace and sophistication that the Feminine innately possesses, were either diminished or twisted into scatter-braininess, objectification, and submissive docility.
Even when women in the twenty-first century venture out in seemingly ‘revealing’ clothing, an element of sexual appeal is automatically projected onto them, and two things usually happen – masculine energy objectifies them, while oppressed feminine energy becomes envious, perceiving them as a threat. This ultimately creates division within the feminine collective, making it even easier for masculine oppression to intrude upon the Feminine Principle.
Evolution of the Feminine from Ancient Traditions to Modern-Day
Sensuality is a natural expression of the Divine Feminine. This is apparent in the mystical and sensual power attributed to all well-revered Goddesses in ancient traditions. They were often depicted in beautiful garments that accentuated their physique, as well as shown as taking part in dances that highlighted the fluidity of their human vessel.

Unfortunately, this ancient reverence for the beauty and grace of the Divine Feminine has been eroded in modern-day patriarchal society. The Feminine who was once respected for the full spectrum of her creative expression now lives in fear of masculine exploitation.
Many traditions that once regarded dance, music, and the arts as a crucial part of their identity now view those very things as unnecessary and even derogatory in some cases where status is of concern. Moreso, elders in some traditions are shameful of young women partaking in these activities because they believe it places them in a position of sexual vulnerability.
The oppression of the Feminine is also evident in society with how intuition has been disregarded in favor of the ‘practical’ world of logic. Critical thinking and logical exercises are held in high regard on school curriculums while creative expression via art and music are merely presented as electives.
Furthermore, the Feminine’s steady, gentle pace of existence has been uprooted in favor of fast, cold results-driven living. There is a need to produce fast, make a living, and appraise things purely for utility rather than enjoyment. This is evident in the rise of industrialism and commercialism, as well as the move from rural to urban areas. More and more land is exploited for commercial use, forests are cut down, demonstrating the increased move toward productivity at the expense of undervaluing the simplicity and beauty of the natural world.
Modern-day society also upholds criticism, judgment, and transaction-based relationships as opposed to the harmonious, compassionate, caring connections that were once held. Connections in which there was a genuine concern for one another’s emotional worlds and an ability to understand the realm of emotions within oneself. A lot of ancient societies were highly advanced in emotional and energetic healing practices, even using elements of the natural world to complement them. Nowadays, there is little to no regard in mainstream society for the wisdom held within such practices, because cold hard logic and worldly success have become the masculine ideal.
Speaking of which, the Feminine Principle understands the quiet, intuitive knowing that occurs within the inner world of thoughts, emotions, and energy, while the masculine is outwardly focused and only believes that which is visible with the physical eyes.
How Women’s Rights Have Indirectly Resulted in a False Identification
It is important to note that even with the move toward increased women’s rights, there is still an underlying masculine oppression taking place. Women are being forced to become like men in order to be perceived as equal in society. This means working as hard (or harder than) men yet receiving a comparatively lower salary, abandoning their intuition and creativity in order to fit into a man’s world of cold hard logic to survive, having to be aggressive and harsh, overexerting themselves to balance a successful career and family life, yet still grappling with shame at having to showcase and prove their worthiness to men.
This has created a toxic cycle where women are no longer in touch with their innate feminine wisdom and are bending over backwards to become something that is not aligned with their true essence. It is ultimately a disservice to themselves, as well as humanity.
Not only that, but this false identification with masculinity has also bred competition amongst women which has reinforced the pedestalizing of masculine power.
The Interplay of Masculine and Feminine Energy
Women’s movements over the years have also done away with a lot of the feminine qualities that were once attributed to women such as a notable reservedness and politeness in demeanor. Nowadays, such qualities are often perceived as ‘weak’ and women tend to embody more masculine energy by being increasingly forceful and upfront. This can be understood as a pendulum swing from having been so outwardly oppressed in society to now feeling like forceful displays of power are the only way to be viewed as equal to men.
Yet trying to become like men may not be the answer.
Masculine energy is naturally drawn to Feminine energy that is authentic. Thus, what we see in society is self-destruction within the feminine collective due to women unconsciously embodying masculine energy and wondering why they are having to compete with other women for masculine attention.
What the feminine collective truly needs to do is return to its divine essence by embodying the qualities of creativity, harmony, receptivity, communalism, and intuitive power. When the Feminine collective embodies its true energetic blueprint, the Masculine will naturally come into balance.
This is the interplay of the Yin and the Yang. And I don’t know if you’ve noticed something different in the air this year … the shift is starting to happen.
Note:
‘Feminine’ when capitalized refers to the Divine Feminine
‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ in their lower-case form refer to the collective feminine and masculine energies created as a result of worldly influence
