The corporate environment tends to have rigid social structures and tends to be rife with employees who are ego-driven, wanting to prove themselves to all those around them.
Due to the large and longstanding network of corporate, these dynamics can be almost impossible to wean yourself out of. It’s like a black hole that you get sucked into, a badge of soul loss you inevitably receive upon receiving your first job acceptance letter.
What really is at the core of these dynamics, though? What perpetuates them?
Well, if we really want to get metaphysical, there are certain agendas headed by not-so-well-intentioned beings behind the majority of corporations.
If I had to sum up in one phrase what perpetuates these harsh, competitive, power dynamics, it would be – Lack of Self-Worth.
With that, I mean a lack of self-knowledge. A lack of truly knowing oneself at the deepest level.
People would not feel a need to prove themselves if they were already confident in their skillset and what they brought to the table.
Unfortunately, many school systems and workplaces do not set people up for success when it comes to self-confidence.
In school, graduates are mass manufactured like a herd of sheep. They’re all treated the same, with a generalized curriculum at least in the earlier years of schooling. In the job application process, applicants are treated like a commodity in some cases. In the workplace, this generalized, detached treatment becomes even more prevalent, with leadership usually more concerned with the bottom line rather than the wellbeing or career growth of their employees.
The corporate world sadly is filled with unconscious and ignorant minds that are so focused on gaining a competitive edge over others and boosting their own image, that they fail to see the suffering of their fellow coworkers and customers, consequently losing the opportunity to make a true positive impact.
